We had a smoking hot weekend at our house, literally!! For the first time EVER I had an oven fire!!!! It all started with me craving something sweet.......I blame this extreme sugar craving on the fact that I gave up chocolate for lent and really needed a chocolate fix. I made my first mistake by logging into Pinterest (why oh why did I think that would be smart?). For some reason I was craving apples, and wanted to make an apple slab but didn't have any apple cider for the glaze. So while I was searching through the apple recipes I stubbled across the Pioneer Woman's skillet apple cake. I had all the ingredients & decided this was the sweet "snack" for me. So I proceeded to make the cake & then bake the cake.........towards the end of the baking I noticed that the butter/sugar mixture had been oozing over the skillet and making a mess in my oven. So when I removed the cake I did something I never did before.........I was tired (see last paragraph explaining what I'd done all day) & just wanted the cake and I didn't wipe out the gunk in the bottom of the oven. I simply pushed the "self cleaning" button and thought I'd have a nice clean oven when I woke up in the morning. Well that didn't happen.........I had a fire in the oven & tons of smoke that smelled just awful. I ended up with a big mess & let me just say that febreeze commercial is a big fat lie!!!
Good news is......after a couple of cleanings with Easy Off, I was able to clean out the burnt gunk & my oven still works. After googling about my "fire" I decided that I will never use the self cleaning feature again!!! Talk about nightmare stories..........ovens have exploded and babies & pets have died from the fumes. Oh.......and if you are wondering how the cake tasted, I'll leave you with a quote from Zach......."Mrs. Rita this cake is so worth the fire!!!!" It was delicious~
If your wondering what I did Saturday morning............check out the photo below:

I spent the entire day working on my front yard. I lost my azaleas in the drought last summer & decide to replace them with knock out roses. I also planted some begonias & salvia.......I mulched, mowed, put out fertilizer & ant killer. Now I have to plan a day to do the same in the back yard~
